The 5-Count: What It Can and Can’t Do

By Fred, Marketing Manager

Dr. Don Catlin, one of the world’s greatest gambling mathematicians, did a massive study of the 5-Count (http://www.goldentouchcraps.com/proof.shtml) and you owe it to yourself to familiarize yourself with it. There have been a lot of mistaken notions about the 5-Count, often by writers who have no idea of what the 5-Count is, what it can do and what it can’t do. These writers assume certain things about the 5-Count that aren’t true and ascribe to Frank Scoblete certain concepts that Frank doesn’t subscribe to.

So here is a list to help you sort it all out.

The 5-Count can:

  1. Reduce your exposure to the house edge by reducing the number of shooters you bet on. The 5-Count reduces the number of random rolls you face by 57 percent!
  2. Continue to get you the same kind of comps for your body time even though your money is not at risk.
  3. Allow you to be on all the hot random rollers at the table.
  4. Get you on the controlled shooters better than the "bet-all" players.

The 5-Count can’t:

    1. Get you an edge over the game with random rollers.
    2. Guarantee that you will win.

GTC players use the 5-Count if they feel they must bet on some random rollers in order to look like regular players. It is an excellent selection criterion because you tend to look just like a normal player waiting a little to bet on certain shooters.

If you are interested in reading about how the 5-Count works, the best book for this is Frank Scoblete’s Forever Craps: The Five Step Advantage Play Method ($13.95).

You can purchase this book from Amazon.com or call me, FRED, at 1-800-944-0406 to order by credit card.
